Description

Alexander Webb

Union general (1835–1911) who received the Medal of Honor for leading the Philadelphia Brigade in the face of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg. After the war he spent 30 years as President of City College of New York. Uncommon partly-printed DS, signed “Alex. S. Webb ,” one page, 18.5 x 15.5, January 27, 1899. Military order in which Major William Curtis Forbush “has been duly constituted a Companion of this Order in recognition of the services rendered in the War with Spain, 1898, by himself, as Major 9th U.S. Cavalry, while commanding his Regiment in Santiago Campaign.” Signed at the conclusion by Webb. The red, blue, and yellow ribbon remains affixed to the lower left. Double-matted and framed. In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
