TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 8 x 10, Department of Justice letterhead, March 12, 1891. Letter to Clarence H. Kelsey, a lifelong friend and Yale classmate to Taft, concerning the political career of Timothy Lester Woodruff, a fellow Yale graduate and American businessman. In part: “I don’t care much for political support, and I have about all the recommendations from the members of the bar of New York and more than I had any right to expect…I should be obliged to you if you would see that Timmy does not go into the political business. I feat the effect of it.” In addition to several handwritten corrections, Taft adds a short postscript: “P.S. How are the two little valedictorians.” In very good to fine condition, with a light block of toning from prior display, and old tape remnants along the top and bottom edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
