ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.25 x 8, October 8, 1868. Letter to Theodore Tilton, in part: “Let me commend to you Mr. Jenkins, of Delaware, who has developed with clearness…the idea of a republican goal, which I insist is the great legacy of our bloody war.” Hand-addressed and free franked on the reverse of the second page by Sumner. In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
