ALS, one page, 7.25 x 10, American Airlines letterhead, November 16, 1968. Letter to "Jerry," in full: "Your sister is out of sight plus beautiful plus groovy plus ALIVE plus electric. I hope well for you in the future of whatever you may go through. Remember yourself." Below, he sketches a heart and adds "to your sister." In fine condition, with interesting folds and mild creasing and toning; the overall visual appeal of this rare piece remains. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, in part: "In November of 1968, my sister Melinda had a flight from New York to L.A. On the flight roster of important people was the name Jimi Hendrix...She introduced herself & told him she wa s a fan of his & had a brother that really liked his music also. But she was too embarrassed to ask for his autograph...she finally asked him but he said he was a little busy right then...As he was leaving the plane, he went up to my sister and apologized...and said give me your brother's address and I will send him my autograph. A few days later I received a letter and autograph from Jimi Hendrix." This incredibly rare letter comes from a significant time in Hendrix's career-on November 16, 1968, his recently released album Electric Ladyland hit number one on the Billboard charts. Despite his wild success and wilder lifestyle-with nearly any woman he pleased at his fingertips-Hendrix was so enamored with the recipient's sister that he decided to sit down, compose, and send this incredible letter.
