Description

Henry J. Heinz

American businessman (1844–1919) whose ‘57 Varieties’ became the nucleus of one of the largest food-processing concerns in the world. TLS signed “H. J. Heinz,” one page, 5.75 x 9, personal letterhead, December 29, 1902. Letter to Miss Frances Pierpont Siviter, in part: “I do not know how you could have selected a nicer Christmas remembrance than the one you sent me. As you have beautifully said ‘it carries a little bit of the summer into the winter,’ for through it one is carried back in thought and memory to the forest and to mother nature. Your mamma’s poem on the sculptor is a tender and beautiful one.” Includes a copy of the referenced poem, and Heinz’s unsigned personal 3.25 x 1.5 calling card. In very good condition, with show-through from a mounting remnant, and a heavy central vertical crease to calling card. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
