Description

James Buchanan

ALS, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, April 27, 1853. Letter to Henry B. Hirst, in full: “I have received your favor requesting me to address Governor Bigler a note recommending your appointment as a Notary Public for the City of Philadelphia. It has never been my practice to interfere in more local appointments for that City, leaving this to the Democrats directly interested; yet if your brother should deem a letter from me necessary to secure the appointment, (which I do not believe,) I shall address such a letter to the Governor. Without this necessity, I should rather continue to pursue my hitherto uniform practice.” In very good condition, with scattered overall toning, adhesive remnants to lower corner tips, and a heavier line of adhesive remnants to reverse of second integral page (not affecting the letter). Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
