With evidence continuing to mount against Nixon for his role in the Watergate cover-up, the president faced widespread calls to resign his office in early 1974. Following the indictment of the Watergate Seven on March 1st, and the subsequent public release of the some 1,200 pages of White House conversation transcripts between the president and his aides, Nixon had lost nearly all of his political support, and was soon charged with the first of three House Judiciary Committee article’s demanding his immediate impeachment. In this rare letter to Indiana Congressman Roger Zion, Nixon addresses his potential resignation and his “intention to remain on the job” in the face of overwhelming adversity.
