Description

Early 1952 Hollywood document on “Communist infiltration ‘into the entertainment industry’”

DS, ten pages, 8.5 x 11, September 17, 1952. Minutes of a meeting of the Motion Picture Industry Council, notably discussing the Red Scare. In part: “Mr. Broidy presented a report…covering discussions of aspects of the House Committee on Un-American Activities…a review of the problem raised in connection with American release of films made abroad by so-called ‘fugitives from the House Committee’; comment on the manner in which the Senate’s McCarren Committee has chosen to give Hollywood only secondary attention in the course of its investigations into Communist infiltration ‘into the entertainment industry,’ regarded as an indication of the progress made within the industry itself in dealing with the Communist threat.” Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Reagan as the organization’s secretary and countersigned by Art Arthur as executive secretary. In fine condition. A fascinating document as the ‘Communist threat’ continued to be a defining element of his political career. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
