In part: “Mr. Gunther [sic] Wendt has been the pad leader on every manned space mission flown in this country. In this position, he has been responsible for the final checkout of the spacecraft, launch countdowns, and crew insertion. He is normally the last man each crew member sees before the hatch is closed for launch…Mr. Wendt insists on perfection from himself and all his associates…From a flight crew point of view, we would specifically like to see him continue as a pad leader on all manned space flights independently of who manufactures the spacecraft. All our flight crews have complete confidence in his abilities which is very important to successful manned space flights.
