Two ALSs signed “Geo. Bancroft,” both one page, 5 x 7.75 and 4.75 x 6.5, dated April 29 and May 6, 1876. Both are addressed to Adjutant General W. S. Stryker. The earliest, in part: “The passage from the draft of Donop’s letter to Grant which you cite in your second letter to G. H. Moore is taken from my papers. I enclose to you a copy of the note in which I have referred to your discovery & explanation.” The second, in full: “I find I have no proof of the page of my history in which your name is mentioned except that which I sent you. I need to see that page again before my last revise for the press. Pardon me, if I trouble you to return it me for that purpose.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an original mailing envelope, addressed in Bancroft’s own hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
