Connecticut: George Wythe

Law professor who was first of the seven Virginia signatories of the United States Declaration of Independence (1726–1806). ADS, signed “Wythe fr the Pl.,” one page, 8 x 6.25, July 1747. Legal document concerning an unpaid business debt. In part: “The aforesaid Defendant, not regarding his Promise and Undertaking aforesaid…but contriving and fraudulently intending craftily and subtilly to deceive and defraud the aforesaid Plaintiffs in this Particular, hath not yet paid.” Intersecting folds, staining to the left margin, and show-through from docketing to reverse, otherwise fine condition. Wythe played a significant role in American history as a mentor of the likes of Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, and Henry Clay. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
