Description

Ambrose Bierce

ALS, one page both sides, 5 x 8, no date but postmarked November 7, 1894. The last two pages of a letter to Emily Grant, in part: “That I proposed them for publication in ‘Prattle,’ with a few alterations, but in deference to Mr. McEwen’s feelings Mr. Hearst did not publish them, nor anything else that I wrote for two weeks. As my salary was not affected by that I did not greatly mind, but I did mind a little on account of your verses which I thought good. I think so still. I preferred to answer you by letter, for I could hardly say anything to keep you in the limits that I allow myself in my talks ‘To Certain Correspondents.’” In fine condition, with a partial separation to second integral page. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Bierce’s own hand. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
