Description

Prince Charles

ALS signed “Charles,” three pages on two sheets, 4.75 x 7.25, Windsor Castle letterhead, June 13, 1977. Letter to Commander Elliott, in full: “Thank you so much for your kind letter and the enclosed book. I shall now be able to discover exactly where I have been going wrong with these dreaded martinis! I’m so glad London isn’t proving to be too ghastly. Personally, with all that is going on this summer, I find myself occasionally wishing I was back at sea! But then I receive letters from various contemporaries still in command telling me of groundings, collisions and people firing solid shells through Leander Class frigates and I begin to feel I did the safe thing in leaving when I did so as not to embarrass my senior officers any further! Of course the invitation to the Garden Party is for you and Irene. That goes without saying. My affectionate regards to her and every best wish to my erstwhile senior officer & fellow Commander!” In fine condition. With noted emphasis on his decision to not “embarrass my senior officers any further,” this intriguing letter casts the Prince of Wales in an unusually revealing light. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
