Description

The Soviet dictator lovingly approves of his daughter’s artwork

ANS in pencil in Cyrillic (translated), “Good. Excellent! Secr. of Setanka, I. Stalin,” on a colored pencil sketch of a ship by his daughter Svetlana Alliluyeva ‘Setanka’ Stalin, one page, 7.25 x 5.5, no date but circa 1930s. The sketch is labeled across the top in her hand, “Drawing by Setanka-Housekeeper.” The ship has a flag lettered “CCCP” and is named on the bow after Vladimir Lenin, “Ilich.” Tears and paper loss to edges, and several tack holes to the upper portion, otherwise fine condition. In a 1967 article for Life, Svetlana Stalin wrote that her father always playfully signed his letters to her, ‘From Setanka-Housekeeper’s wretched Secretary.’ A rare autographic piece revealing the hidden private life of Stalin. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
