Lincoln’s controversial first secretary of war (1799–1889). ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 8, September 12, 1882. Letter to Arthur Brack, in part: “I am very sorry that a promise to Mr. Fulton of Pine Grove, Cumberland co. for Friday 15th makes it impossible for me to be with you at Mr. Young’s. Major Bent is in the same fix…Can’t you telegraph Young to postpone his affair till Monday or Tuesday? Try and come with us to Pine Grove.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and trivial soiling. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
