Description

Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 4.75 x 2.75, addressed by Darwin to “R. Suchsland, 25 Belle Vue St., Swansea, S. Wales.” Postmarked at London, March 26, 1866. Reverse is notated, "Chas Darwin" in an unknown hand. In very good condition, with scattered soiling, a small stain to the address area, and a tiny tear to the top edge. Rudolf Suchsland was the son of publisher Friedrich Emil Suchsland; he had written to Darwin seeking permission on behalf of his father to release a new German translation of later editions of the Origin of Species. The two corresponded between March and April of 1866 regarding the topic. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
