Personal check, 8.25 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Roosevelt as president, payable to T. H. Netherland for $42.55, February 23, 1909. In very good condition, with slight creasing, expected bank stamps, cancellation cuts and holes (affecting a few letters of the signature), and light brushing to his first name. Thomas H. Netherland served as a clerk in the White House, whose main responsibility was issuing social invitations. On May 12, 1909, Netherland shot himself in a fit of depression due to a nervous breakdown resultant from overwork in the closing days of his White House service. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
