American landscape artist (1823–1900). ALS signed “J. F. Cropsey,” one page, 4.25 x 6.75, August 17, 1859. Letter to Mrs. Cundell. In part: “Please do me the favour to accept the accompanying little sketch of Paestum—the original of my picture in this years Royal Academy Exhibition; now in the possession of our friend Mr. Brown.” In fine condition. Cropsey visited the ancient Greek city of Paestum in 1848, and the ruins there became the subject of several of his works and studies. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
