Description

Calvin Coolidge

Two letters: first, a TLS as president, one page, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, June 2, 1924. Letter to longtime Ladies’ Home Journal editor, Edward Bok, in full: “I want to thank you not only for your generous word of approval of the policies which I have laid out, but for that deeper interest which impells you to do all in your power to see that they are carried out effectively. I can assure you that what you say is a real help and encouragement to me.” Second, a TLS, one page, 7 x 9.25, personal letterhead, December 19, 1932. Letter to Massachusetts merchant and philanthropist Col. Walter Scott, in part: “Only a few days ago I was looking at that manuscript which Fenimore Cooper wrote about your illustrious namesake and thinking how wonderfully kind it was of you to send it to me. I have been much disturbed to hear at times of your poor health and certainly hope you are better.” Concerned for his friend’s health, Coolidge himself would pass away only seventeen days after writing this letter. In overall fine condition, with a spot of soiling and intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) to the letter dated 1932. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
