As US minister to Great Britain, a letter to Robb, Hoge, and Wilson, in full: “I have this moment received the case which you were kind enough to forward to me containing five boxes of cigars; & I beg you to communicate to my good friend W. Robb of New Orleans my warm acknowledgment for a token so acceptable of his regard.” Vertical postmark covers a portion of writing. In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), slight show-through from adhesive remnants to reverse, and a few spots of soiling.
