ALS, one page, 5.5 x 7.75, Barnum’s American Museum letterhead, March 21, 1861. Letter to Mrs. A. C. Wilson. In part: “An English woman named Julia Embree…says she lived with you and with Mr. Grover. Can you tell me whether she is a good cook and laundress and whether she is very clean—and a woman of good habits?” In very good condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds, small repaired tears at the top and bottom, a stain to the bottom edge affecting part of the signature, and trimmed edges.
