Five months before his appointment as the Patriarch of Venice

Italian Pope (1881–1963), born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, who ascended the papal throne in 1958 and served until his death. As the guiding force behind the historic Second Vatican Council, John ushered in the most sweeping reforms the Catholic Church had undergone in centuries. Scarce vintage matte-finish 4.75 x 6.75 photo of the future Pope posing outside with four other gentleman, signed and inscribed as Apostolic Nuncio to France on the reverse in blue ballpoint. Photo is dated in Italian in an unknown hand below the image, August 29, 1952. In fine condition, with a few light spots of soiling to edges and trivial wear to corner tips. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
