Wonderful matte-finish 7 x 7.75 photo of Ruth with his wife Claire, teammate Lyn Lary, and his wife, actress Mary Lawlor, boldly signed in fountain pen, “Babe Ruth,” “Lyn Lary,” and “Mary Lawlor Lary.” Matted and framed to an overall size of 17.5 x 19.5. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA. This signed photo presents several wonderful associations. Lyn Lary played shortstop for the Yankees between 1929 and 1934, Ruth’s last years with the club. The two became good friends and Ruth nicknamed him ‘Broadway’ because he loved the theater in New York and was one of the best-dressed ballplayers in the league—as is evident in this photograph. Even more interesting is Mary Lawlor, who was one of the original cast members of the musical No, No, Nanette, infamously produced by Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee. In the lore of the ‘Curse of the Bambino,’ Frazee sold Babe Ruth from the Red Sox to the Yankees in order to finance the show, resulting in the franchise’s decades-long World Series drought.
