Description

Extremely early Bogie photo inscribed to a “dish” of a starlet

Stunning early 1930s vintage glossy 7.5 x 9 portrait of Bogart by Autrey, handsomely signed and inscribed in fountain pen to aspiring actress Roxanne Curtis, “For Roxanne, that dish, From Humphrey.” Nicely double-matted and framed with a nameplate to an overall size of 15.25 x 20. In fine condition, with some trivial skipping to ink.

Curtis was an aspiring actress who was discovered and signed to a five-year contract by Fox Studios in 1930, the same year they signed Bogart to his first contract. The careers of these Fox rookies took vastly different paths—Bogart, of course, achieved Hollywood immortality, while Curtis appeared in just one film, playing an uncredited role as a flapper divorcee in Lightnin’ with Will Rogers. A rarely seen inscribed portrait from the outset of Bogart’s great career. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
