Italian Blackshirt leader who popularized aviation in Italy and was killed by friendly fire early in WWII (1896–1940). World War II–dated TLS in Italian, signed “Balbo,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, Governor General of Libya letterhead, May 11, 1940. Untranslated letter to General Carlo Favagrossa. Creasing to the upper left, overall toning, and a few tears to the left edge, otherwise fine condition. Balbo was killed just six weeks later when his plane was shot down by friendly fire over Tobruk. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
