Rare ALS in French, signed “Gv. Flaubert,” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, no date but circa early 1870s. Letter to his friend, the Baroness Adele Lepic, in part (translated): “You would be so kind to come tomorrow after your dinner to make me a visit—you and your mother, who must need a little fresh air? As has come to you, tomorrow it is impossible for me—my niece goes in the morning and now I dare not leave my mother alone!” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds. Flaubert had a cordial relationship with Lepic, a children’s author who also published under the pseudonym A. Gennevraye, and she appears on multiple occasions throughout his collected letters. Flaubert’s mother had fallen ill and would die in 1872. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
