Description

Richard Nixon: John Dean

Document signed by President Nixon’s counsel, one page, 9 x 3.75, September 21, 1972. A document concerning the ballot for the upcoming 1972 presidential election. In part: “To William Cridler, Count Clerk for the County of Barry. I hereby acknowledge receipt by registered or certified mail, of proof copy of ballot containing my name as candidate for the office of President of the United States of the Republican Party, for use at the General Election to be held on the 7th day of November 1972, and I hereby certify that my name is correctly placed on said ballot.” Signed at the conclusion by John W. Dean, III, counsel to the president. In fine condition, with expected document wear. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Nixon won the election in a landslide, taking 49 of the 50 states to win 520 electoral votes against George McGovern’s 17. In Barry County specifically, Nixon received 64% of the vote. It was through the questionable financial activities of the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, the official fundraising organization for Nixon's campaign, that the Watergate scandal was first exposed. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
