Lindberg.” In full: “Four days after landing on the beach of Iwo Jima, we began the climb up Mount Suribachi, I cannot understand why the Japanese didn’t annihilate us as we climbed and crawled up the narrow trail. Myself, along with Lt. Schrier, Sgt. Thomas, Pfc. Charlo, Sgt. Hansen and PFC. Michels were the six Marines to raise the First United States flag on top of Mount Suribachi. This Original flag was raised at 10:30 am, on February 23, 1945.” Also includes a clipped magazine advertisement, 5.25 x 11.5, promoting the 1942 film We Are the Marines, signed along the bottom in black ink, “Charles W.
