Description

Irving Berlin

TLS signed “Irv,” one page, 6.75 x 10, personal letterhead, August 18, 1942. Letter to fellow songwriter Harry Ruby, in part: “Your ‘genius’ letter has already been turned over to Irving Hoffman, who I think is going to use it. I know all about the numbers of mine that you wrote into the Marilyn Miller script, as Warner’s asked for quotations for them…Regarding allowing Warner Brothers to use me as a character in the picture, my policy, so far, has been not to give this permission. I have refused to do it many times. We started conferences on the movie version of ‘This Is the Army’ last week and it can be a swell picture. When I see you, I will tell you all about it.” Double-matted and framed with a photo of the composer to an overall size of 18.5 x 16.75. In fine condition. The success of Berlin’s Broadway musical This Is the Army, a restaging of his morale-boosting 1917 revue Yip, Yip Yaphank, led to the production of a film version starring a young Ronald Reagan in 1943. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
