Jay Gould

Financier (1836–1892) known for his stock market manipulation of railroad securities; he also tried to corner the gold market, leading to the ‘Black Friday’ stock market crash of September 1869. Partly-printed DS, one page, 10.75 x 7.5, March 24, 1880. Stock certificate for 100 shares of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company, signed at the conclusion by Gould as its president. Double-matted and framed with a photo of Gould to an overall size of 22.25 x 14. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered creases, cancellation holes (one affecting his last name) and pinholes throughout, and other expected document wear. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
