In part: “Although the President’s victory was not at all unexpected, we are so happy over it that I can not refrain from writing a brief note of congratulation to the President…Kindly bring this enclosed note of mine to the President’s attention. I want him to know that the Korean people are very happy over his re-election.” In fine condition, with paper loss and creases to the top edge. At the time, Rhee was in Washington and working on the book Japan Inside Out, which he published during the summer of 1941. With the attack on Pearl Harbor just a few months later, Rhee cooperated with anti-Japan strategies conducted by the Office of Strategic Services while lobbying President Roosevelt and the US Department of State to officially recognize the exiled Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, based out of Chongqing. Following World War II, Rhee would be backed by the US as the first president of South Korea. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
