Description

The celebrated evolutionist and his German translator

Crisp ink signature, “C. Darwin,” on an off-white 4 x 1.5 slip. Also signed on the right side, “Prof. Victor Carus, Leipzig, Germany.” Affixed to a slightly larger slip. Light creases and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by a modern postcard photo of Darwin. Carus was a comparative anatomist and translated the third German edition of On the Origin of Species, publishing it in 1867; he subsequently translated twelve other works by Darwin. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA.
