Henry Clay

Distinguished statesman, US senator, secretary of state, speaker of the house, and three-time presidential candidate (1777–1852) who became known as the ‘Great Compromiser’ for his support of the Union prior to the Civil War. Free-franked envelope panel, 4.5 x 2.5, addressed in another hand to “B. B. French, Esq., Washington,” and franked in the upper right by Clay, “H. Clay.” Double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 16.5 x 11.25. In fine condition, with trivial soiling. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
