Fitzhugh Lee

American soldier and politician (1835–1905), nephew of Robert E. Lee, who was a Confederate cavalry general during the Civil War and a general during the Spanish-American War. In the interval between the two wars, Lee served as Governor of Virginia and Consul General at Havana. LS signed “Fitz Lee,” one page, 7.75 x 10, December 9, 1885. Letter to Jefferson C. Davis. In part: “Your letter arrived during an exciting political campaign…I accept with pleasure the compliment paid me by my Election as an honorary member of the ‘Ionian Literary Society.’” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and light toning. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
