The identity of Remon’s assassin and the reasoning behind it remain unresolved to this day, resulting in several conspiracy theories—though it may have been a simple internal coup, one theory holds that it was a CIA hit due to his interference in Panama canal negotiations, while another claims that he was killed on the orders of Lucky Luciano over a dispute involving a seized shipment of heroin.
