George B. McClellan

Union general (1826–1885) hailed at the beginning of the Civil War as the ‘Young Napoleon,’ who was defeated for the presidency in 1864 by Abraham Lincoln. Rare Civil War-era hand-addressed and free-franked mailing envelope, 5.5 x 3, addressed in McClellan’s hand to “Brig Genl Stewart Van Vliet, Chief Qtr Mr, Army Potomac,” franked in the upper right, “Geo. B. McClellan.” A horizontal fold, scattered creases, and tiny tear to upper left corner, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
