Rare partly-printed banknote from colonial Virginia for five pounds, 6.5 x 4.5, March 4, 1773, signed at the bottom by the speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses, “Peyton Randolph,” and the associate justice of the Supreme Court, “John Blair.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds with a few small splits, overall creases and wrinkles, and scattered toning. Peyton went on to serve as the first president of the Continental Congress in 1774; and Blair carried out one of the most distinguished legal careers of his day, signing the Constitution in 1787 and going on to influence its interpretation during his years on the Supreme Court.
