Declaration of Independence: William Williams

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Connecticut (1731–1811). Revolutionary War–dated ADS, signed “W. Williams,” one page, 6 x 8, September 7, 1780. Document concerning payment to Connecticut soldiers in the Continental Army. In part: “We the subscribers hereby authorize & impower Mr. Jas. Danielson Fish, to receive any & all forms of money as securitys for money, which use as may be rec’d to Us & each & Either of Us, on Acct. of the Deposition of Money & our Wages…to us soldiers in the Continental Army.” Signed in the lower left by Williams. Also signed on the reverse by four soldiers, certifying their service in the First Connecticut Regiment. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, scattered toning, and a few slight brushes to ink.
