Description

Dwight D. Eisenhower

TLS, one page, 5.75 x 7.75, Columbia University letterhead, November 29, 1948. Letter to William Johnson. In full: “Thank you very much for advising me as to your intentions concerning the will of the late Joseph C. Pfister. This is a matter concerning which I have no current information except for that presented in your letter. However, I shall instantly process your letter to the appropriate officials of the University and shall send you a full answer as promptly as possible.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pfister, a former Columbia graduate, had left $197,000 to the university in his will. After his passing in 1948, his family contested that gift, claiming Pfister was mentally unstable at the time of making out his will, and that Columbia had in fact solicited the donation. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
