TLS as president signed “Jerry Ford,” one page, 6.75 x 9, White House letterhead, October 11, 1974. Letter to Representative Roger Zion. In full: “Betty has asked me to express our deep gratitude for your thoughtful message of comfort. Knowing that we are in the thoughts and prayers of you and your family means very much to the both of us.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a photocopy of Zion’s letter wishing her a speedy recovery. At the start of her time as First Lady, Betty Ford was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy, which she decided to openly discuss with the press and public. Her decision greatly increased awareness of the disease, leading to a spike in women self-examining and, in turn, a significant increase in early, life-saving detections.
