In part: “The first part of the waiting is over—the plan went off satisfactorily in its initial stages. Now there's more anxious moments as we try to get ourselves collected and ready to do something more. I'll be taking a look myself, tomorrow…This morning I visited a number of air fields. It's a curious thing; morale is always high in a unit that is in contact with the enemy—fighting him every day. This morning I saw a squadron that had not run into a Hun airplane in days. They were completely fed up with flying for hours and not getting a fight. All they wanted to know was where to find an enemy! I just discovered that this is Sunday. Days of the week mean nothing to me, but I do remember, ordinarily, the day of the month. Sometimes though, I find myself wondering what month it is!…I'm much afraid that Johnny's anniversary may have to go unnoticed as far as I'm concerned. But I will try to send him a cable. In any event be sure to tell him that now that he is of voting age I will stand in awe of him, and will learn to say 'sir'…you're the grandest person in the world, and I love you all the time. Also I miss you so much I'd like to start yelling aloud!” In fine condition.
