Asking for assistance for the Tuskeegee Institute

LS, one page, 8.25 x 10.5, Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute letterhead, November 27, 1903. “Our students pay their board, partly in work and partly in cash, but they are wholly unable to pay the cost of teaching which is Fifty Dollars per year for each one. If you can help us in any measure, however small, to meet the cost of tuition, we shall be very grateful. Our endowment is not sufficient to enable us to run the institution without asking help.” Letter is affixed to a slightly larger sheet of red cardstock. In fine condition, with slightly trimmed edges, intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and light paper and surface loss to left edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
