Description

“The American people would never knowingly vote for socialism; but under the guise of liberalism, they would adopt every fragment of the socialist platform”

ANS at the top of a typescript of his speech ‘Business, Ballots, and Bureaus,’ twelve pages, 8.5 x 11, no date but circa 1960s. Response to Mrs. Zwick. In full: “You were very kind to write. I used notes on TV but my talk was based on this speech I gave a few months before.” The speech typescript, in part: “The American people would never knowingly vote for socialism; but under the guise of liberalism, they would adopt every fragment of the socialist platform until one day America would be Socialist without knowing how it came about…We must meet the challenge now, or spend our later years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like when men were free.” In fine condition, with two mailing folds and staple holes to upper left. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Reagan’s hand, who also corrects his misspelled name in the printed return address area. Outstanding content from the future president, who originally gave the speech in May 1959—quite early in his political career. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
