Description

Bogie’s large life insurance policy Payable to Bacall, canceled the day after his death

DS, signed “Humphrey D. Bogart,” one page both sides, 9 x 13.75, September 10, 1948. Application for an insurance policy from the Manufacturer’s Life Insurance Company. Policy is for $85,000, listing his wife Betty as his only beneficiary. Application also lists three other policies for Bogart totalling $195,000. Reverse bears a report written by the insurance agent listing Bogart’s personal information, and goes on to state he is in good overall health, lists his monthly income at $100,000 from “salary and profits,” and recommending his policy at ordinary rates, “subject to rating.” At the bottom the agent requests, “Please date policy 24 June, 1948 to issue at age 48.” Signed at the bottom of the front by Bogart. Front of the document also bears a large red stamp which states, “DEAD Jan 15, 1957.” In very good condition, with expected document wear, some paper loss and small tears to edges, and some scattered light soiling. Bogart would succumb to esophageal cancer on January 14, 1957, after fighting the disease valiantly for several years. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
