Excusing his attorney general from a cabinet meeting

ANS in pencil as president, signed “J. K. P.,” one page, 8 x 10, April 29, 1845. Brief response written below an initial letter sent to him by Attorney General John Y. Mason. Polk grants Mason’s request to skip a cabinet meeting. In full: “There is nothing of so much importance as to demand your presence to day.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds and slight show-through from ink notation to reverse.
