Description

Andrew A. Humphreys

Union General (1810–1883) and Chief Engineer of the US Army. Humphreys became an aide to General George B. McClellan in 1861 and was promoted to brigadier general in April 1862. In September of that same year he took command of a division of the 5th Corps which he led with distinction in the Antietam campaign, the bloody assault on Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg, and at Chancellorsville. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Humphreys in profile, signed below the image in purple ink, “A. A. Humphreys, Maj. Genl.” In fine condition, with surface loss to reverse. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
