Description

Scarce twice-signed carte-de-visite of the legendary admiral

American admiral (1801–1870) who was a flag officer of the Navy during the Civil War. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Farragut in uniform, signed at the bottom in black ink, “D. G. Farragut, Rear Admiral,” as well as on the reverse in the same manner. Published by E. Jacobs of New Orleans, and bears a two-cent revenue stamp affixed to reverse. Scattered soiling to the lower right (affecting the end of the signature), scattered marks and dings affecting the image (including his face), and areas of adhesive remnants to the reverse, otherwise very good condition. One of just a handful of signed Farragut photos we have offered, and just the second twice-signed example we have encountered. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
