Description

Rare war-dated portrait signed by the ardent abolitionist

Journalist, editor, and social reformer (1805–1879) best known as one of the most influential abolitionists in the decades leading up to the Civil War. Original 2.25 x 4.25 carte-de-visite three-quarter-length portrait of Garrison in a distinguished pose, signed on the reverse in black ink, “Wm. Lloyd Garrison, 1863.” Published by C. Seaver, Jr., of Boston. In fine condition. This is the first Garrison signed photo we have ever offered, and is especially desirable as it was signed in the year of the Emancipation Proclamation.
