Description

James Buchanan

LS, one page both sides, 8 x 10, May 11, 1846. Letter to Representative Josiah Grinnell. In part: “I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter…relative to the claim of Captain Eliphalet Robbins. The accompanying extract from a note of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Granada to Mr. Bidlock…contains the latest information upon the subject in the possession of this Department.” Separation along hinge to blank second integral page, and a few small separations along horizontal mailing folds, otherwise fine condition. The recipient of this letter, Josiah Bushnell Grinnell, was a Congressman from Iowa who famously claimed to be the person that Horace Greeley first advised: ‘Go West, young man, go West.’ Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
