Description

Decades-long correspondence from the FBI director

Collection of 18 TLSs, 16 signed “Edgar,” and two signed “J. Edgar Hoover,” all one page, most on FBI letterhead, dating from the 1940s–1960s, all to Richard Hyman, who worked for King Features Syndicate and Cowles magazine. One letter, dated April 22, 1949, reads, in part: “I want you to know how deeply I appreciate your kind offer of services. I have always felt that we could feel free to call upon you whenever problems arose…I regret, however, that it will not be possible to have a formal relationship because of regulations prohibiting the so-called dollar-a-year-man relationship for reasons I am sure you can appreciate.” In very good condition, with marginal binding holes to most of the letters, and some light toning to a couple others. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
